Undecided New Grad!

Hello Everyone,

I graduated May 2005 and took some time off after graduation- now ready to start nursing career in acute care. I would like to know what are your thoughts about job offers in Surgical Step-Down and Medical Telemetry floors? I don't want to feel overwhelmed, but also want a good foundation to start off my career. I am having anxiety and pre-employment jitters. Any thoughts or advice would help?

Thanks
~ Mee

Re: Undecided New Grad!

It's up to you what floor you would choose. They are both good places to start. With surgery, you will basically just see surgery patients, but on a medical floor, you get to see a lot of different things. You get everything from cardiac to respiratory to pancreatitis and so on. I was faced with the same dilemma as you when I graduated. I chose to work on the medical floor. You know, I've heard people say that med-surg is the most basic, but I have to disagree. I've seen so many different patients with different diagnoses. Every day I work I learn something new. Good luck!
