Cool Sprained ankle 3 days before new job!!!!!!!

I'm due to start my new job as a NICU nurse on Monday and my dumb butt sprained my ankle Thursday night! What a day that was!

Long story short, I was sitting on my hubby's motorcycle just learning how it feels, standing with it, etc. but we were not in motion or anything. Unfortunately we were on an incline in our driveway and Hubby blames himself for it but stuff happens you know, anyway it rolled backwards a bit and spooked me so I lost my balance and fell down, the bike fell down too, on me! But thankfully Hubby was there to brace some of the fall and the helmet was between the bike and the road so it took the brunt of it. Again we weren't moving or anything so I guess that makes my "accident" all the more dumb!

Anyway went to ER b/c of the severe pain and swelling and inability to walk on it...UGH! Imagine my RED face explaining to the doc that I am an RN due to start work on Monday and telling how this happened!

Then that night we got home finally and my daycare provider of three weeks (the first person we have used and the only daycare my son has known) is closing, we got an email saying that. I was devestated and worried that I would not be able to start my job.

Thankfully I called my new employer today and they said the first week is in a classroom setting so I can still do this b/c I'm only supposed to wear the airsoft cast for a week and use crutches for a week but the ER doc said if I felt better it would be ok sooner.

Man what a doofus I am! I'm the klutz of the family as you will soon see once I start posting about my daily happenings. But anyway...lessen learned, don't sit on a bike and try to learn how to balance it when you are short and the bike is big and heavy. I'm not a novice passenger on a bike, I grew up on Goldwings all my life with my family but this is a sport bike (gsxr) so I don't know if that makes a difference but at any rate, it will be a bit before I get on again LOL! Gotta heal!

In the meantime if you can keep us in your thoughts as we try to find a new daycare provider!

We're keeping our fingers crossed that your new job starts off great. If there's good news here, it's that in the NICU, even after your class time is over, there probably won't be a lot of walking. You're likely to only have 2-3 patients a few feet from each other.

Good luck to you. Be careful out there!
