I am a first semester nursing student and I have to do a group debate on this topic and am having troubles finding information. I need at least a few basic points to start with. it's all going to depend on the level/severity of the violation.
if the outcome results in $$ fines only, then likely no, nurse should not lose license.
but if severity is such that imprisonment is outcome, yes, loss of license is appropriate.

well this anwser isn't simple but if they violate privacy they are in violation of HIPPA so they probably will lose their jobs but their license who knows it will but it at risk more than likely.

I would think that it would be dependent upon the severity of the breach of confidentiality. Blabbing about your patents and being caught and continuing to do so after a warning, might just warrant losing you job. If a person were to hack into a computer system, obtain patient info in great numbers, then sell this info to some entity, this might go into the realm of losing one's license. For one thing, it is definitely a criminal act. Crimes against people or property are grounds for license discipline or revocation. Like I said, I think it depends on the situation. If everyone lost their license because of one or two indiscretions, there would be a lot of people losing their license. It is so easy to speak out of turn!
