Just curious. I'm finishing up my 1st year of nursing school (one year to go)--- I'm wondering what shifts are available to new grads after orientation period. I want the night shift, but I was just wondering--- do all hospitals have just 7pm-7am (or day shift 7am-7p) or do some offer 11a-11p or 3p-3a (a nurse I worked with over the weekend, said that alot of hospitals had 11p-11a and 3p-3a which would work great for our schedule, but I didn't think hospitals had that shift, I thought it was pretty much all 7-7 )-- I was surprised. just wondering. Thanks!

My hospital is all 7-7, but two of our competing hospitals offer the 7-7, 3-3 and 11-11.

I want Monday-Fri 8am-2pm but I just dont think I will ever find it!!!

I know that most ERs split their shifts. I've heard of 3p-3a, 11a-11p, 1p-1a, which my friend works in the ER, and 9a-9p. From where I've been though and interviewed, most floor nursing jobs are 7-7.

I work 7:30pm- 8:00am 3x per week... and no I do not get paid the 40 hours like a lot of people belive. I get paid 36 hours. to make the time 1/2 I must work more than 40 hours.

Just ask around where you live. I work 11-7 (wish we did 12's) but I have a friend who does 5-5 which I think is GREAT. (not at my hospital)

Oh - 5 to 5 would be so nice!!! When I am off orientation, I will be working 7pm-7:30am. I did 3-3:30am during my student nursing and LOVED it!!! I am worried about the 7-7:30 as I am not sure I will get enough sleep!!! Only time will tell....

Our unit has people who work straight 8 hours shifts, straight 12 hour shifts, or a mix of 8s and 12s. Shift options include 7a-330p, 7a-730p, 11a-1130p, 300p-1130p, 1100p-0730a, and 1100p-1130a. I work the mix of 8s and 12s and I love it. But I know other units at our hospital don't have this many options.

Here are the start/end times for 8hr & 12hr shifts at my hospital:

Days: 0700-1530 or 0700-1930
PMs: 1500-2330 or 1900-0730
Nocs: 2315-0715(they don't "technically" get a 1/2hr break)

12hr shifts: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730

eves 15:30 - 23:30

nights 23:30 - 0730
