I am a new grad, and I have tons of questions.

should I get the nursing insurance?
I was told by risk management that the hospital covers me, but if I have my own insurance they will go after me if they know I have insurance.

so I don't understand! I am very confused!

I try to go over the p&p of my facility, and follow it whenever the case arises.

Yes! Get the insurance!
I can't keep up with how much they change our P/Ps. But when I went over them, I was amazed at how different they are from actual practice.

Simple things that don't make sense-like the frequency of dressing changes on Piccs. But we now use a biopatch which decreases the frequency of the changes.

But say I go by our new standard (which hasn't been reflected on our P/P yet) and the pt gets a line infection, and dies.

You've just practiced outside of your p/p, and guess what? The hospital will NOT cover you.

And you will be on your own.



The insurance will also help if you are even in trouble with the BON.
