Hey I graduate oct 14 as an LPN and start my first job in LTC oct 17. I'm soooo scared I dont know enough or made the right job pick or will screw up so badly the first day they wont want me to come back. Any advice that will help calm my nerves for the first few days at my new job.

No one will expect you to know it all. Listen carefully and be attentive during your training. Also, make sure that you let you preceptor and DON know if you need more training. Good luck.

Thanks, they said they would offer me as much orientation as I need to feel comfortable and there is like a 3day classroom thingy where you go over back care and all that stuff.

Go in with a positive attitude, and do not behave in an overconfident manner. (a lot of new nurses I meet think they have to know it all and act overconfident, making people dislike them and not help them as much). Ask a lot of questions, offer to help others if you have some down time, and can reasonably do so.

You are going to do very well! Let us know how your first days go...

and I forgot!!

:hatparty: CONGRATULATIONS on your graduation, what a great achievement!!!!! :hatparty:

I know how you feel. I am facing the same thing. I graduated from the LPN program on July 22. It took me 2 months to find a job. Next Monday (october 3rd) is the hospital orientation. I know I'll be following a nurse at first to get trained.

But I"m nervous like you. The LPN program went SOO fast and now I've been out of school for 2 months and I feel like I've forgotten so much. I worry about knowing enough to do the job.

We should just remind ourselves that we have the knowledge or we wouldn't finish the program. I think you will do fine. Just take a deep breath, have a positive attitude, and be open to learning and asking lots of questions!

You will probably be bombarded with policies and rules your first days. Some you will remember, others you won't. Make sure you find out where you can find these things written down in case you need to look any of them up. Follow what you were taught in nursing school and you will never be wrong.
