I to, graduated last year and was already a tech in the ER, on the day shift. I stayed for 6 months; time went on and I had a hard time separating tech from nurse, and all the tasks that had been given to me as a new grad.
January brought to me a new year, I went to the medical tele floor, and learned all kinds of new skills, and more time to deal with all the different doctors;good as well as bad experiences.
My IV skills even improved, because many of the patients admitted to the floor ,are chronic and are either diabetic or just in plain bad health. Now I am bored because from January till now, I feel I have mastered most of the skills. I also find many of the new nurses come to me as a resourse now.
I am now going to see what the night shift is like, and then by January get into ED again, because I really miss it. I miss the EMTs I miss the acute chest pains, I miss all the lacerations... I WANT TO GO BACK!!! I NOW LOOK BACK ON IT AND DO REALLY MISS IT!
