My name is LaVonne I graduated in May 2005, took boards on June 20 and passed!!! Currently I am looking for a job in a acute care setting while working part-time in at a NH where I worked as an LPN.

Hello Everyone,
I graduated with my BSN on May 13 and took my NCLEX-RN on June 21st and passed with 82 questions.
I started orientation on June 3 on OB. Our floor does LDRP & GYN surgicals, but for the first 10 weeks I am only caring for mom/baby couplets & GYN patients. Then I have to do a 10 week orientation on Med/Surg then back to my OB floor to learn Labor and Delivery.
I am SOOOOO excited and feel extremely fortunate to be given such a great opportunity right out of nursing school. The nurses that I am working with on OB are phenomenal! They really try hard to make my time there the best it can be. They are great about letting me do most of the technical skills that need to be done on the floor (IV's, Cath, etc). I was very excited to get ot work with them as I had my first child at this hospital last summer and the care I received was top-notch!
This forum is a great idea and I am sure it will come in hady over the next year with the huge transition we are all making.

hey everyone-

Nursing is my third career; when I finished college the first time, back in 1995, I worked in touring musical theater and playing/singing in a jazz band on a cruise ship for several years, then I came back to NC and, after several temporary clerical gigs, got a marketing contract position at a big tech company. I did really well in the field, and worked in different areas of marketing and international corp. strategy over the course of 5-6 years, then got laid off shortly after 9/11/01. I did a LOT of job hunting in the field for a year, as well as a lot of soul-searching, and decided to go into nursing.

Along the way through school, I got my EMT-B certification, then worked in an adult neuro ICU as a tech/CNA during my last year of courses. Up until the fall of my senior year, i figured I'd end up in the ER or an adult ICU, but my brief rotation through the NICU in clinicals blew me away...I felt so at home with the patients and the families, the equipment, and the pace of the unit, I never wanted to leave!

One of my preceptors at work told me to look into the PICU in our own hospital, so I scheduled a shadow there. I was hooked, and knew before that day ended that I needed to work there. I applied, interviewed, and got offered the job, and started my general hospital orientation (i'd done it last year, but oh well) last week, and begin unit orientation on Wednesday! I graduated May 13th (I think- I didn't attend, I was too happy I no longer had to make the 100-mile round trip to school and back!), took the NCLEX june 3rd, and passed with 75 questions. I spent the intervening weeks basking in free time, something I'd not experienced for 3 years- now i'm rested and ready to get started learning how to do my job. The words that best describe my feelings about this phase in my life come from Little Red Riding Hood in the musical "Into The Woods":

"it made me feel excited- well, excited and scared."

Hello, All ... so excited to see this new forum. I graduated from nursing school in late April 2005, took boards on May 26th, found out I passed with 75 questions on May 31st, and started a 4-month orientation in L&D on Friday, July 1st. My preceptor is awesome and I am so excited about my new career!

Hi all, I am Lisa, I graduated May 6 and took boards May 13, found out I passed May 16, and just now turned loose on pts! I work on a post surg unit and love it....I love the Med Surg atmosphere and feel like it offers so much more challenge, as you have to have good solid knowledge base of ALL areas and it really helps hone the skills. I am old (37 y/o) and have 2 teenage sons, am starting my BSN this Fall, but alread have a BS in computer science, so I can shorten my class time to only 6 nursing/clinical classes, so perhaps I can get my MSN/CNS before I am 90 y/o .

I am 35 year old mother of three and worked full time and maintained the deans list all through school I just finished on june 30th , just have to send in the BLING BLING to await the news of the nclex exam...yikes ... but in the mean time I read , surf the internet ,watch all discovery health shows related to nursing , and you know what ....it is the coolest feeling to KNOW what they are talking about, I am so proud of myself I could burst some days but hey it is a long hard road and we all deserve to be PROUD of ourselves .congrats to all of you new nurses!

i found out i passed my boards today with 75 questions. i start work on july 25 in the cardiovascular intesive care unit. i'm very excited. nervous too, but not overwhelmed......yet
