Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hello! I am Jess. I just graduated this past May with an ADN. I took the NCLEX this past Saturday and passed that as well so I am officially an RN!

I started work this week as an RN on a Med/Surg floor. My orientation is 20 weeks, which I LOVE! SO far, even though it's hours of classroom training, I really like the Hospital. The group I am starting with seems to be really great and everyone in the Hospital seems to be very helpful and receptive.

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hi! I'm Jody. I graduated from a practical nursing program in June 08, took my boards on July 9th, and passed! So I'm an official LPN. I do home health and absolutly love it!! I'm going back to school for an LPN to RN program.
I'm very proud of myself and my license because I am only 19 and there are few people who can say they have accomplished so much at such a young age.

You sound like me, except I could be your mom .

I am CT Pixie. I graduated from the LPN program in June 08 and took my boards on July 9th!

I am going back in September to finish off a couple of pre-reqs for the LPN to RN bridge program.

I start my new job on Monday. Its LTC/Short term rehab. My heart is in geriatrics. Always was, hopefully always will be.

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hi everyone,
I am a new RN, graduated in May, Passed my NCLEX on July 18, and have just accepted a new job at a huge medical center. This floor has lots of stuff going on: chest tubes, vents, isolation etc... I will really be seeing some heavy stuff. Anyone out there started on a floor like this? How did you deal with all of this? OMG! Vents!

All I will say to that is that vents were not as scary as I expected....I did my role transition/final rotation of school in a NICU and was terrified to get a ventilated baby. I was absolutely positively shaking when I had to suction for the first time but learned there is always someone there with you when you are suctioning.

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hi,
I am Tracy. I graduated in May. Took my boards on June 23rd and passed with 75 questions. I started work June 9th in Women's Services, speciically postpartum but we are crossed trained to float to NICU, nursery, and L&D. My orientation is 10 weeks with 8 weeks of being precepted. I am now in week 4 of 8.

I work nights 7p - 7a. I am one of 10 recent grads hired for Women's Services for this hospital that is undergoing a huge expansion for Women's Services.

I am thrilled with my preceptor and the staff. Everyone is so helpful. Typical nurse patient ratio is 1:8 and I have just moved up to 1:6. That keeps me BUSY!

I hope you have a heart of steel. I had only 3 oncology pts once & I had to come home and cry. Its difficult seeing young peoples' lives pass before your eyes. Get ready.

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

I have read and read your's and other's stories about going back to school for their RN or passing their RN boards and all I can think about is how ugly the head of the nursing program was to me when I was going for my RN. She did some really mean stuff that now in no way would I put up with, but then I guess I was too mild and easy going. So I went for the LPN program and flew through it. I have all of the pre-reqs, but its been years now so I don't even know if the classes would be any good.
I applaud all of you for getting through and passing. I haven't worked as a nurse in 10 yrs since I took care of my dad when he passed with cancer at home. After that the feelings of still wanting to be a nurse just left. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I can say this about taking the boards.....just answer by asking yourself, "what would I do FIRST for my patient?". My sister told me that and that alone put me at ease. It makes sense.
