Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

I just graduated from my LPN program in December, 2007 and became licensed in February, 2008. I took a job at a small county hospital/LTC facility in the LTC portion of it on 3rd shift. There are 2 floors with approx 75 residents total. Some nights there's another LPN working with me and I have just one floor with 1 aide and 35 residents and some nights I'm the only nurse and I float between the 2 floors with 2 aides on each floor (if we're lucky, most of the time there are only 3 aides total).

Maybe it is just because I am a newbie, but I am overwhelmed being the only nurse there with 75 residents to be responsible for and doing the charge nurse thing, meds, treatments, supervising aides, making sure the residents on hospice are adequately treated for their pain (esp when actively dying), doing all the assessments, charting, plus helping aides with rounds!!! I don't know you guys tell me if I'm overreacting or not. Just had to vent.

On a lighter note, I look forward to cyber-socializing with all of you on here!

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

I finally did it! I passed my VN boards and will start work as an LVN (moving up from student intern) in the ED in just a few weeks. I'm nervous, but so excited. It's such a relief. I am also 2 weeks away from finals and on my way into my last semester of RN school!!!! It's been a long, but exciting (and stressful) journey. It's amazing how fast it flies by!

I to, graduated last year and was already a tech in the ER, on the day shift. I stayed for 6 months; time went on and I had a hard time separating tech from nurse, and all the tasks that had been given to me as a new grad.

January brought to me a new year, I went to the medical tele floor, and learned all kinds of new skills, and more time to deal with all the different doctors;good as well as bad experiences.

My IV skills even improved, because many of the patients admitted to the floor ,are chronic and are either diabetic or just in plain bad health. Now I am bored because from January till now, I feel I have mastered most of the skills. I also find many of the new nurses come to me as a resourse now.

I am now going to see what the night shift is like, and then by January get into ED again, because I really miss it. I miss the EMTs I miss the acute chest pains, I miss all the lacerations... I WANT TO GO BACK!!! I NOW LOOK BACK ON IT AND DO REALLY MISS IT!

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hi everyone I just graduated from my ADN program in the beginning of this week in Chicago and will be taking the state boards some time in July. I came to these boards to meet other nurses and see if I can get some general information about transerring my RN license to a different state,

Hope to meet you all soon
