Smile Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hello Everyone! My name is Stephanie. I graduated from nursing school in December 2007 and I took and passed boards with 75 questions on Feb. 29th. I am currently working in a pediatric hospital on a med-surg floor. I am looking forward to using this website and to getting know people. Thank you!

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hey everyone! My name is Christina Illiano, I'm 20 years old and I'm VERY VERY new to nursing. I took Allied Heath in High School and I let it expire so I refreshed at a community college and I start my very first nursing job as a CNA tomorrow at 8am... I'm scared to death lol.

Any advice? I really admire everyone whose graduating the nursing programs, I have a long way to go before I even begin the journey. I want to go back to school and work on my degree. I'm starting at a assisted living home, I've done clinical work at them before so I understand the basic tasks to be completed but im still scared... what if i have to perform cpr?? haha I know its not like working in the hospital..but still.

Are you a nurse? or a CNA's? I do not think in any state the CNA's routinely perform cpr......Welcome to allnurses. And welcome to the healthcare field

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

When we're running a code in our unit, anyone who is capable may be pressed into doing compressions. All of the staff who work in our hospital are required to keep their BCLS current. There could be a facilities management worker walking through who gets tapped to do compressions... I don't think it's ever happened because usually we have more than enough nurse, RTs, residents, fellows and physicians present, but it could.

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

We don't discriminate here. Or at least we shouldn't. The site is primarily for nurses, but we have lots of guests and members who aren't nurses, but might be planning to be. Or they have specific interests and are looking for answers or someone to chat with. It's all good. Welcome to allnurses, NurseXtina. If you aren't a nurse, though, you'll have to change your screen name. Our terms of service say the following:

Using Professional Titles:

Members cannot call themselves by professional titles, if they do not hold that title. ie. Members cannot call themselves "doctor, Dr., RN, LPN, LVN, Nurse,CNA, RT, MA" etc, unless they are actually licensed and/or certified as such a thing. If you have chosen a user ID name that reflects an unearned professional title, please contact administration, Admin Help Desk, and submit three (3) names for consideration. An administrator will get back with you regarding your name.

I am sorry I did not mean to offend you. I was confused with your post. You said you were in the allied heath program, but had not begun the nursing process, So I was asking if you were a cna.Because the name you had threw me off and your post said a CNA. every state is different and that is one of the reasons I like this site because we learn new stuff everyday. So I thought maybe the allied health would have been and equivalent to lvn/lpn (d/t your name)or something. I was just trying to get clarification.... The hospital I worked at would only let RN's Lvn's and doctors perform in a code due to the fear of getting sued if something went wrong), I thought that was the same everywhere. That is why I thanked janfrn for the post, I learned that that is not the case everywhere.

ONCE AGAIN I APOLOGIZE IF I OFFENDED YOU........ I did not mean to.

Re: Let's introduce ourselves...

Hello, I am working as a PCA in ICU at a local hospital. I graduate with my ADN in May. I have just accepted a RN position in the same unit I work in now. I have worked there for a year and love my job. I am extremely nervous about taking on the RN role. Any advice for my transition from PCA to RN would be greatly appreciated.
