Let's Appreciate our CNA'S
|
|
Although some of our nursing assistance can be mean to us, we really have to try and appreciate them. It happened today, as soon as I got report from the night nurse, I went to suction one of my patient, because the suctioning nurse did not show up as yet, well while suctioning the patient, one of my CNA came to me and told me that one of my patient was not doing well, so I left what I was doing and immediately went to that patient, and there I find him, BP 91/58, HR 116 RR 30 pulse 0x fluctuating from 82% to 87%, he was in resp distress, and was removing his nasal canula,I started to panic, because I had one patient on 1 to 1 already, so I told the CNA to stay with him, and I went to call my supervisor, I know nclex said do not leave the patient but at that moment I was not thinking straight, so thank God for my CNa, and may God bless them, do not be mean and cruel to them, because they are our eyes with the patients, God bless.

As a CNA myself, I have to say thanks for your post! Its nice to hear from nurses that appriciate what we do! It might not be much sometimes, but it can make a world of difference.

I agree with you. As a former CNA and a new nurse now....I'll definitely appreciate the CNA's a lot more. They really are our eyes and ears. Though the floor I work in doesn't have aides all that often...but we do have fewer patient load if thats the case. To nurses out there..APPRECIATE YOUR CNA'S!

As a CNA, I had to do a double take when I read the title. Rarely, in my job now, do nurses appreciate our work. Work and patient care goes much more smoothly when everyone works together and there isn't two teams: the nurses and the aides.
Where do you work at? I want to work with you.
Thank you!!

I would like to be another RN to jump in and thank the CNA's! Actually where I work, the CNA's are called Care Partners, which I like a lot better. It makes it sound more like they and the registered nurses are working as a team to provide the best patient care possible instead of having one work under the other. And I got to say, the Care Partners have been a TREMENOUS help to me, especially as a new nurse. I really don't know what I would do without them. So thank you so much for all your hard work! It's not me either...there are lots of times when the patients themselves report back about how great the care partners are! =D

I also was a CNA before I became an RN. I am a new grad as well. I promised myself a long time ago to always appreciate and thank my CNAs. Without them our jobs would be a whole lot harder. I try to do as much as I can on my own without adding to what they already have to do. Thank you to all the CNAs/Techs out there. Their jobs are hard also.

The techs I work with are wonderful. They take good care of our pts. It's one reason I don't want to leave my nightmare of a first nursing job, but I'm moving on. The techs always have my back, and I theirs. I'll never forget the first time I was in a serious situation with a pt. She had bradyed down to 30. In the midst of the crisis, my tech is the one who stayed with me and the pt. When I was on the cell phone with the Dr, my tech kept talking to the pt and helped her to stay awake. The other nurses were too busy, as they told me, to help me through my first near crash. I thanked her so much during and after the fact for her assistance and complimented her to our nurse mgr. That experience will always be with me and I am so so greatful for all she did. More than she knows.
