Tomorrow I will have officially been a nurse for ONE YEAR--that all encompassing, all important first year. It has been more than challenging, getting through orientation, preceptor woes, feeling more comfortable in my career. I just wanted to write this, to celebrate and to let you all know that you can get through these tough times too!

Tomorrow I will be attending a class to become a nurse preceptor for future new grads on my tele/heart transplant floor. I can't wait to incorporate my experiences during the past year to help new nurses adapt to our crazy, stressful, yet rewarding career.


If I could do it, you all can too!

You're welcome.

At times I was more than discouraged. Do your best to learn as much as you can, take inservices, and set goals for yourself.

I was totally the person that felt like I was going to throw up due to anxiety every night I worked--I just want to impart to you that that feeling decreases with time and experience.

I have a lot to learn, don't get me wrong, but feeling like I can swim and won't sink is new and it's possible for you to get there as well.

That's me! OMG! I know it will go away, but it's so comforting to read from so many <=1 yr nurses that it DOES get better.

I actually called in sick this week because I went from anxiety to panic attack and truly made myself sick

Thank you for your post.

I am going on 8 months and still have days where I leave feeling overwhelmed and go home concerned as to if I have really finished all charting etc.....

Things are much smoother/better than a few months ago....but I am looking forward to my completing my first year...and feeling more confident in my new role.

Congratulations to you on your first year and to moving into your new year as the teacher!
