bringing work home...

Hello! I am a new grad who is currently off orientation (from ICU) and now on a step-down unit. I find that on my days off I cannot stop thinking about the patients I had. I begin to conjure-up situations/conditions that I may have missed etc... or things that I could have done or didn't do or whatever.....

Does anyone else do this ?

pasha :-)

Re: bringing work home...

Yup, I do that. But less than what I used to when I first started.
Sometimes it gets me in the middle of the night when I wake up and remember something, so I just make a note of it to check on my next shift.

Re: bringing work home...

i still do it. not all the time, but every now and then especially if i had a really sick patient. i am learning to accpet that i know what i am doing and that i provide the best care for my patients. that makes it a little easier, when i leave work knowing that i did everything for my patinets that i was suppossed to do

Re: bringing work home...

I sometimes bring work home. I have about an hour on the road after work, so that helps to decompress.

I have also recently begun journaling my day when I get home. I think it has helped by just giving "voice" to my thoughts about the shift. things I did right along with things I need to improve upon.
