Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone that had to take ATI testing in school found the testing to be a good indicator for how well they did on the NCLEX? I took my last ATI today, the big comprehensive one and I got an 80. It said that I had a 98% chance of passing the NCLEX the first try. Is there any validity to that???
Also, are the ATI tests similar to NCLEX? Is this what I should expect?

ati is a predictor, but its not your nclex exam and it wont have the same ques. i know someone who had a 67% chance of passing the boards on the 1st try and they passed. someone had an 83 or 85 % passing on the first try and failed. so its only a predictor. it could be right or wrong. your performance is based on your test questions and how you respond. so still study.

It's a predictor, but not very similar to NCLEX, especially not the latest test formats. NCLEX has alot of 'select all that apply' questions now, and priority questions. Also fill in the blank math questions.
I think you still need to study as much as you can for NCLEX, from an NCLEX type book like Saunders, if you haven't yet, before trying the NCLEX.
I know some people who got a very high score on the ATI and didn't pass NCLEX the first time.

I got 80% with 98% chance of passing on first try result on the ATI in March 2008. Took NCLEX Early April 2008 and passed with 75 questions first try.

I used the ATI Testing format last year and I passed the NCLEX the first time with only 75 questions. However, it is not a substitute for studying. But ATI does help you get into the mindset for the test. Saunders NCLEX book with computer CD is definitely a good study tool, especially when it comes to using the accompanying disc. Get the latest version--it should have the new format of questions (select all that apply, identifying areas, placing things in order, etc). Remember to get a good night sleep the night before (I know easier said than done), eat breakfast, allow yourself enough time to get there, don't rush, and remember to breathe. Thanks to all who replied. I of course still plan to study, I actually do about 100 questions a day!!! Augh.... My poor kids thought it would get easier when school was over, hahaha

I thought that the ATI tests were nothing like the nclex. I cannot stress Kaplan's prep course enough. Good luck, you'll pass!

I think it's variable. I scored high on my ATIs and passed NCLEX no problem, but someone I knew who scored as high as I did failed and two people I knew who failed the ATIs and had to retake them both passed NCLEX first try.
The main thing to keep in mind is to just study as much as possible and definitely know your meds and labs!
