how long you been nursing , what floor and why do you like it?
I've been a nurse for 9 years, and I love, love, LOVE my job as health services coordinator for an assisted living facility. Yes, there are days I want to scream, but for the most part it's an exciting, challenging, rewarding position, and I expect to stay with it for many years to come.
I will admit it took me a long time to find the right job, but no matter where I've been, I've always tried to make the best of it. It's when the bad days outnumber the good that I move on, and being a patient woman, I usually take quite a while to decide I've had enough.
I will also say that nursing is what has made me a patient woman. When I was younger, I didn't have a clue as to what went on in other peoples' heads, but I did have a hair-trigger temper and a mouth to match. Having dealt with countless 'delicate' situations over the years, I've had to develop the ability to assess a situation from many different angles, and to not give up the first time---or the tenth---that I try to do something. In addition, I know now that everything isn't all about me, how
I feel, what
I think, how something affects
me. Maybe that's come with age too; but I don't know that I would EVER have learned that lesson if I hadn't become a nurse.
Nursing isn't glamourous, and it's certainly NOT easy, but I can't think of anything else I'd rather do........except maybe for the cushy job on that Travel Channel show where the host gets to stay at the world's greatest hotels. Alas, I'm a bit too long in the tooth for that one, and I definitely do NOT look good in a bikini, so I'd best just stick to nursing.
