Afraid of grouchy manager....

I have a dilemma...I have been feeling lousy lately, abdominal pain, nausea, etc and my doctor thinks it may be Crohn's disease..I have an upper GI series scheduled for Thursday(he wanted it done ASAP) and I'm afraid that I'll get crap from my supervisor.(no pun intended! ) Technically, they're not supposed to consider me in the staffing until I'm off orientation but this woman tends to get a bit snippy when you need time off. I guess I just need a little moral support before facing her on Monday. I try not to let my health affect my work and I'm fairly stoic but this problem needs attending to...anyone else been in this situation? I have the paperwork to back me up and this doctor works in my department so I'm hoping that might help.

Probably one of the reasons your Crohns is acting up?!?! Ya think?!?!

Your health is more important than ANY job.

Hopefully she'll realize that giving you one day off now may save you from having to take several days off in the future if this goes untreated. Might help her put it in perspective if you phrase it as, 'I really need to get this taken care of before I come off of orientation.'

Re: Afraid of grouchy manager....

I agree, what would that same nurse tell a patient who said they wanted to put off having a procedure done because of a difficult boss?

I'm so sorry you are having these problems, no one should have to fear getting medical treatment/procedures done b/c of how their job will view it.

Re: Afraid of grouchy manager....

Thanks for the replies everyone! Eric, your suggestion on how to phrase my request sound like a good one. I would like to get this taken care of now if it is Crohns-get on a med regimen that helps.

Re: Afraid of grouchy manager....

That's true without good health for yourself, you would not be able to provide good care for others, think about yourself first, hope you feel better soon.
