Accelerated BSN or MSN??

I recently went to a graduate school fair and saw that many schools (like UCLA, UPenn, USF, etc.) offered accelerated BA/BS to MSN programs where you earn your BSN and MSN in about two years.

I am planning on applying for an accelerated program after I graduate college. Do you think it is smarter to just earn your BSN, work for a while then go back for your masters? Or is it a better idea to just get it all done at once?

Thanks!

Re: Accelerated BSN or MSN??

Welcome to allnurses! I hope you'll find the site useful and interesting.

There are lots of schools offering these "direct entry" MSN programs now, but they are still controversial within the larger nursing community. There are a number of threads here about the pros and cons that you can review, if you're interested in folks' opinions. Suggest you check out the Graduate Student Nurse forum -- lots of info there.

You may also want to look at some of the existing threads about people's experiences with accelerated BSN programs.

Best wishes --
