I graduated from an ACNP program. While in school, our program director tried to help us out in securing preceptors but many times, us students did not like the ones they were offering to us so that we had to take it upon ourselves to find a preceptor that best fit our learning goals. How we did that is by networking with practicing NP's through the state NP organization. A lot of the preceptors we had, we got to know through word of mouth. It was quite upsetting that my school had a huge number of NP alumni in the area and yet the school itself does not keep accurate tabs of where these NP graduates practice. The list of preceptors our school gave us was pathetic compared to the pool of NP's we were able to find just by networking.
