Grad School (NP Program) Interview Tips

I have an interview coming up soon for an NP program. Does anyone have any tips? What kinds of questions do they ask? Thanks.

Re: Grad School (NP Program) Interview Tips

I had an interview for an ACNP program - basically a lot of questions about where I see myself ending up, why I want to be an NP, what I'll be able to use NP for that I can't do as an RN, how I think I'd manage the study and working fulltime. I have already completed masters level study, so it was fairly easy to say that I thought I could handle the program.

Also, don't forget that you're interviewing them as well. I had a lot of qu's about clinicals, how they were structured, how you found preceptors, etc.

Re: Grad School (NP Program) Interview Tips

I had my interview today. I think it went well, I should find out soon. I hate the waiting part. I thought I would share my experience. I was there for about an hour. Some of the questions I was asked were:

-Tell me about your work and school history.
-Why do you want to be an NP?
-How will you fit school in with your work schedule?
-Since my previous nursing degrees were mostly online, she wanted to know how I would make the transition from online learning to classroom learning.
-What did I plan on doing with my MSN?

Then we discussed the structure of the program and how clinicals were done.

I hope my experience can help someone else.

Good luck, medic! When will you hear that you've been accepted?

Thanks. I should hear in the next few weeks, although I'd be happy to hear it today. Like I said, I'm not a very patient person when I really want something.

Re: Grad School (NP Program) Interview Tips

I had an interview at Rush at couple weeks ago. They asked typical questions, nothing out of the ordinary. Why I wanted to be in the program, how I handled stress, what changes would I make in my lifestyle if accepted. The most important thing is to RELAX. If you got an interview, they like you. They just want to make sure you're not a wierdo.
