Yeah, I'm still totally creeped out by the idea of practicing pelvic exams on each other. I spent a while googling it today; I like this site:

I can't believe that this query was made 10(!) years ago, and here we are still dealing with the issue. I like the response; not a bad idea to remember.

Now another topic-- when do we get all the stuff we ordered?? Does it ship to us, or do we have to pick it up at orientation? I can't wait to try on my uniforms ;-)

Hello, I'm one of the waitlisted people over here in limbo. Been following the thread "just in case". Hopefully, there will be a spot for me this year otherwise, I will be reapplying next year.

Anyway! I was just a little shocked about the whole pelvic exam deal! That's really uncomfortable. Sounds like after shelling out so much money, nursing students should be able to have volunteers for this. Interesting issue.

Question about dress codes

do we only need to wear our scrubs/uniforms and all white shoes when we are doing clinical rotations, or do we also have to wear that during normal class lectures? Just curious!

Uniforms are only required when you're doing clinicals.

About the pelvic exam:
Only the females practice on eachother the males in the class get to go to a hospital for a day and practice on real patients. Fair huh!

Moving into Bard will most likely be after May 23rd, since I am a current ETP student living in Bard and I do not have to move out until the 23rd. Last year we moved in the day before orientation started. It may be the same this year.

Just curious, when would these alleged pelvic exams take place...are we talking this summer? Definitely interested by the response to this issue, I didn't think about it much but was familiar with the idea so it doesn't seem so terrible, I don't think I realized there was so much controversy around it. As I mentioned, I care more that students of the other colleges do not do this than the fact that we nursing students do.

As for the "fairness" factor of the male students going to the hospital for a day, I don't see how else it would be done otherwise. It would bother me if male students were not expected to perform something personal that could technically be done on both sexes, such as a rectal exam, on each other and female students were. Realistically though, life isn't fair and sexism still runs through the undercurrent of our society so, as women (and men who are irritated for women), we just have to understand that, make ourselves heard, hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. I'll come down off of my soap box now.

The pelvics take part in your specialty portion for everyone except, Anesthesia, Psych, acute and any others not involved in womens health.

More Housing Delays?

New York (AP) - More news arises in what is being considered a showdown between School of Nursing students and the Office of Housing at Kolumbia University Medical Center.

On March 19 a representative from the Office of Housing confirmed that assignments would be delayed to March 21. After our correspondents contacted the office on March 21, they were notified that they would be further delayed to March 24.

In a shocking turn of events, the Office of Housing is claiming that the letters will be mailed the first week of April. Will the letters ever arrive in the mailboxes of students awaiting housing? Will the students have enough time to find alternate housing options? We will keep you updated as this story continues.*
