Re: Columbia University ETP 2008

Hi, I called the housing department hoping that they'll tell me an answer regarding the on-campus room. I knew they'll send the letters today -- Wed, but the lady on the phone told me they'll send them Friday. One more week to wait...

Yeah - gotta love it - I called today to make sure they were being sent and she said Friday. More waiting!

I don't understand why they can't just email us these types of things, it's 2008.

You guys, I graduated in 2006 and still don't have a physical copy of my DIPLOMA. Just accept it now, and you'll save yourselves a lot of agita.

Re: Columbia University ETP 2008

So apparently I can kiss on-campus housing goodbye. Somehow my deposit check got lost and supposedly it's a main component of how they assign dorms. I was actually told two different things...

Housing Dept: We don't look at the date the deposit is received, just whether or not it was
School of Nursing: They base it on when we receive the deposit

I barely got the email this morning saying my deposit wasn't received.

I live quite a distance from the school and I spent a lot of money (that I didn't have) to overnight my housing application. I thought this would be enough.

Does anyone else find it unfair to base housing priority on who can send a $500 check the fastest?

I'm only slightly annoyed.

Thanks for the tip elizabells

Yes, I do find it unfair..Although it's hard to believe that they put priority to those who sent the SON deposit the fastest when the deadline was just last week. And many people sent the deposit only after the visiting day. I personally went to the housing department after the open house to see if my application was ok, and if I was missing any documents. Initially I thought that they asked for a separate housing deposit, but that was not true. They told me that they will assign housing after the 500$ deadline (after they receive a list with who payed and who didn't) and the date that they look at when prioritizing is the date that they received the housing application from the students.
I hope there's still hope for you. Where are you coming from? I'm from CA.

Wow, I'm sorry! I'm not a Columbian, but I've been following along...I think its personally ridiculous that they can't bother do anything when they say they will, including the deadlines they set for sending the decision letters and housing decisions. All of the accepted students are complying with their deadlines to do things and submit documentation and they can't even stick to their own!

And yes...although I do not have to deal with it, the way I understand their housing policy, I think its just plain silly.

Re: Columbia University ETP 2008

Thanks for clearing that up PurpleBee - I just overnighted ($28) another deposit check in hopes that I can get on the enrollment list which might not even happen.

Assignments are supposed to go out tomorrow - when I called today I was told assignments have not been made yet. They will be putting together the list and sending it out tomorrow. Good luck everyone - I may soon be looking for a few roommies!

Oh and I just had to ask this question while I was on the phone with housing:

Why are medical/dental students guaranteed on-campus housing and nursing students have to fight for it?

Response: You ETP guys start a lot earlier, far before the other students, so we have to hold on to every room that becomes available.

So there you have it -

Asherah - it's not so much deadlines that they make/break it's just the he-said/she-said in the offices as far as when things will be sent, etc. All of the dates they've officially set have been met. That's good at least!

And that, my dears, is a bunch of crap. Med students also get paid models to practice pelvic exams on, while the FNP and CNM/WHNP students practice on each OTHER. The nursing student lounge has a conference table and a computer that, at least my year, rarely worked. The med student lounge has multiple leather recliners, a bunch of top of the line computers, a huge flatscreen TV... I could go on, but it still makes me angry. One more thing that's just the way it is, I guess.
