Wink Any Johns Hopkins (JHU) BSN/MSN 2008 applicants?

Yes, we're a few months away from applications for the Accelerated BSN track, but I thought I'd see if anyone else was applying for the BSN/MSN (or just BSN portion) at Johns Hopkins, 2008? JHU is my first choice, but I'm also applying to Columbia, Mount St. Marys College (Los Angeles, BSN only) and Oregon Health & Science University.

I'm nervous as I haven't visited the school yet although the Admissions Officers have been very helpful, answering all of my endless questions via email and phone. I'm taking the GRE in October and I have one shot to get it done and get my scores sent off by the Accelerated track early decision deadline, November 1st. I've spoken to some JHU Nursing Alums via allnurses as well and they've been super helpful with my questions as well (thanks!).

How would I pay for it...? Who really knows...

Re: Any Johns Hopkins (JHU) BSN/MSN 2008 applicants?

Hi, there!

I'm applying to JH for Fall 2008 start as well, but I'm applying to 21-month BSN program only as I won't have micro done in time to apply to the ABSN. I hear such wonderful things about the program. Good luck to you!

I'm applying to a few other schools as well, but not the ones that you mentioned (at least this time around for various reasons). I'll just be happy to get in anywhere!

Oh, and I'm taking the GRE at the end of September - scary!

Take care,
K

I'm applying too! BSN-MSN track. Can we apply to both the 21 month and accelerated options? I forget. I can't wait to have all my apps in...it's so stressful thinking about it constantly.

I posed that question to one of the admissions officers as I would prefer the accelerated track but if offered admission to either, I would be happy with the traditional. He basically stated that the better way to go about communicating this in a cover letter with the accelerated application, rather than apply twice. I was told to clearly articulate my motivations for this statement, and I intend to emphasize that JHU is my first choice.

(Although technically I think you could, as in if you applied early decision for the ABSN and was notified by mid-January, you would still have time to apply for the Trad. BSN.)

Good luck all!

Re: Any Johns Hopkins (JHU) BSN/MSN 2008 applicants?

I am also going to apply to JH for fall 2008... but I'm worried I may not be competitive enough. Although my undergrad GPA in Biology is about a 3.62, I received a B in Physiology and B- in microbiology due to very bad choices of combination of classes taken. I still have anatomy and developmental psych to take in the fall but I am very worried! I took the GRE over the summer and received a 500 on verbal and 790 on quantitative. What do you guys think???

It's hard to say, but your undergrad degree is VERY competitive, and I think that might make up for your prerequisite grades so far. If you do well on the other prerequisites, I think you're good. Also, your GRE total score is competitive as well.

I wouldn't worry too much if I were you - just do well on the rest of it.

Good luck!

As per what was told to me by a JHU admissions officer, they like to see their applicants around a 3.3 gpa minimum (cumulative undergrad, including pre-reqs), and GRE scores of 500 each on verbal/quantitative and a 4.5 for the writing portion. I'm sure you'll be fine, and as far as the pre-reqs, a B or above is acceptable. Just do your best on your statement where you will shine, I'm sure!

Just an FYI to any JHU applicants who are on the West Coast and can't make it out to Baltimore for the Open House in October, they sent out an invitation/announcement for a Fall Reception they are hosting on September 26th, in Berkeley. The Sr. Associate Director of Admissions will be present as well as an Associate Professor, and several alumni. The link for more information or RSVP is www.son.jhmi.edu/receptions

What a shame -- I have class that night! I would have loved to attend that reception, which would have been so easy for me - just right over the bridge!

Thanks for letting us know anyway!
