Hi,Iwork in ltc.Do any of you find,that the ted hose are often not applied.This seems to be a big problem.There are a select few that always have them on,then there are those 5 or so that dont.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. In facilities where I have worked, it is the CNA's resposibility to be sure the TED's are put on in the AM and taken off at night. If this isn't being done, it is the nurses resposibility to follow up. Often it is just a matter of adding it to the Plan of Care or worksheet so the CNA is aware this resident is supposed to be wearing them.

In the facility I work at we have Teds on the treatment sheets. So I definately check if they are on or off.

TEDS are usually applied but my gripe is with bandaging, particularly when C/A's just pull on a pair of shoes over knee to toe bandages without care to ensure the bandage stays on the toe!

Yes it is a big problem and we were cited for ted hose not on when they should be. I have a habit of checking those who have the order for them, as they come into the dining room and if they don't the cna/stna can turn them around to their rooms to apply them. We also have the problem of aides applying the tedhose and taking off the bandages completly and I catch it when i see blood seeping out of the nice new white hose I just got in. It has gotten better but it is a never ending job.
