scary looking nursing home

i recently applied for a job in nursing home, that had a beautiful offices for management, beautiful alzheimers wing, but the main nursing home was old and scary looking.

I was told that it had been under poor management, and they had let things go.

They had old metal beds, furniture, etc. Bad need of paint etc.

I just question when the management has such nice offices and then residents are living in such old conditions

Surveys have been good though, checked them online.

was just wondering about conditions of nursing homes where everyone works.

i know of facilities and hospitals that are beautiful but do not provide the quality of care, and vice versa.

you know what they say about not judging a book by its' cover..........

good luck.

Our facility is beautiful and the care is excellent. We believe that our residents deserve a beautiful home and great care as well!

I work in a sister facility of where donmomofnine works, and my facility is beautiful and provides great care as well. The key to LTC nursing (and probably hospital nursing as well) is to find a facility that takes care of the residents and the building.......it's depressing for everyone to work (and live) in a place that looks run down. It has taken over nine years of searching for me, but I am so happy where I am now, because I know without a doubt that the staff does everything it can to give love and care to our residents. At our recent state survey, the inspectors commented that they could tell that the residents were loved by the staff, and were impressed with the care they received. What a great feeling!
Keep on searching for this kind of place.....they are out there!
Good luck!

I guess, given a choice I would neither want to live in or work in a dump.

I work in a dump. Not only is it scary looking it is scary to be around all of these "hostile people." The "hostile people" are the staff. The nice people are the elderly residents.

The medicare website. Not sure of the address, but do a search for "nursing home compare".

Jkaee ~ I agree with you and don't you think all of our sister facilities are wonderful? I get frustrated when all LTC's are lumped together as the same!

I've worked in both kinds of places. We have a facility in this area that is as beautiful as a hotel...but the care is rotten. We have a facility that is old and not at all modern and the care is good. Old does not necessarily mean bad as long as the place is clean and doesn't smell nasty.

That is exactly right-I work in the county run home and money is tight. It looks like an institution-not pretty at all.We do have the best staffing in the area and it is due to our benefits and pay rates.I worked in a lovely private home a few years ago-the staffing was horrendous.....
