Has anyone used the Hip Savers at your facility? If so, do they actually work? To me the pads just don't seem thick enough to prevent a hip fracture or even lessen one. What's your opinion?The girls at work actually had me convinced that the pads were inflatable airbags that blew up with impact! Not a bad idea though...

We just for the first time today, actually, started using them on one of our residents. I can't grasp that it will actually save this lady from breaking her hip. Apparently my boss said she has seen it work for some people, so we will have to see.

We just received them two days ago and may have already started to use them. Don't know b/c I've been off. I really wonder about them. If I were using them, I'd probably fall over just trying to get to those snaps on the crotch!

We've beeen using them for about a year and a half now, and honestly, when they fit well on the woman, they work wonders!!
Important is they fit really well, otherwise they start turning and slipping and they do more damage then good. (Presuring on the thighs and sacrum, or labia!)
Since we started we only had one fractured hip (before it was up to 3 or 4 in the same amount of time, on the same ward, time is 1 year), so yes they are good.

This is very interesting. We were just persuaded last week by our physiotherapist to try them on a resident. Apparently, they have been used in the rest of my facility for some time and they swear that the hip protectors work. There is also, apparently some literature out there proving that they reduce the risk, but I have no authors to quote at this time.

we are using them in both our nursing home and hostel - l believe that they are quite common in nursing homes - from what l have been told they have good results - l am not on the floor any more

we use them on our stroke unit. they look like usual long legged panties but with a pocket over the hip, to which you inset a plastic
oval shaped disc are they simular to the ones you use

We've used a similiar product for 2 years - product called gerihips. No resident wearing the product has fractured a hip yet. We struggle with some of our frequent fallers refusing to wear them : (
