Question Geriatric Certification

I am very interested in obtaining a geriatric certification at this point in my career. I was wondering if anyone out there has info on LPN certification. I have found a few sites with info for RN certification only, but am not having any luck with finding anything for LPN's. I'd appreciate any input you may have. Thanks!

I know that there is a certification in geriatrics for LPNs (and actually one for CNAs as well). I used to have the information, back when I was SDC-ing it. I'll try to dig it up and post it as soon as I find it!!

try www.nflpn.org - they offer certifications for both IVs and geriatrics for LPNs - good luck!

NAPNES has certifications for LPNs in either long-term care or pharmacology. You can get detailed information on either at the NAPNES website.

I looked into certification through both NAPNES and the NFLPN a while back but never persued it. Its sort of odd to see this subject come up as I have been putting a lot of thought into it the past few days.

I just wonder if these certifications would really be recognized by employers.

I have an IV certification that my employer sent me through (not NFLPN) . I rarely use those skills in the environment I work in, but it has seemed to be looked at as a plus at interviews. With all of the LPNs I've worked with I can't think of anybody that I knew was certified in any other area.

Any LPNs here have one of the certifications? If so has it been a plus for you?

I was wanting to take this test. Has anyone done it? It seems like a complicated process.

Re: Geriatric Certification

ANCC offers certification for RN's. Test is very expensive though. I thought about getting certified for my own benefit, but like another post mentioned, would employers really pay any extra for this? Especially in LTC where everything seems to be cut anyway. Good Luck.
