Hello,
I was wondering if anyone out there is a Certified Geriatric nurse? I am taking some courses right now and plan to take the certification course at the end. Do you receive any extra money or perks for being certified? I am taking the courses because I really want too, but the facility will reimburse me if I pass. Other than that, the certification is not really recognized in my facility.

I am interested in becoming certified, I am not sure my facility would pay for it but I would like to do it for myself, are you taking your classes on-line? if so where? do you have an email address so I can check into it, I would appreciate any info you have r/t this. The ANCC is the group which can certify you. Go to their web site for details. There are courses you can take, but I think you now have to have at least a BSN to sit for the exam.

Hi there,
I am taking the classes at a hospital in Rhode Island. It's a 14 week course, meeting once a week. I don't think you need to take the courses to sit for the test, but there are other requirements for testing. Like working in Long term care for at least 2 years ( I think?)
The hospital is affiliated with a large Long Term Care facility in the area, so maybe you can look into larger nursing facilities in your area?

I earned my RN, C in gerontology in November 2003. I am a diploma nurse. I didn't take any courses for it. I thought the test was pretty easy for anyone with LTC experience.
