The last LTC I worked at had a Medical Director (MD). He would come to work in military fatigues and tell the nursing staff that he was a Colonial in the military and had to catch a plane at the Air Force Base to go to Washington to see the President of the United States. Other times he came in with a Jacket and shirt with a CIA emblem and flashed the nurses an FBI badge with his name and picture on it claiming to have been sent to the facility by the FBI to keep an eye on things. He even had his Medical Assistant at his private practice answer his cell phone as "Officer Jenny" and tell the nurses who called that the MD was on an FBI mission. The MD would even email the nurses that he was unavailable due to a mission he was on. To really keep us in tears he told us that he was dying of pancreatic cancer. Then there was the time where one of the employees had to bail the MD out of jail for beating his wife. One day I got fed up and called the Board of Medical Quality Assuarance. I was shocked to find out that this MD was a convicted felon, currently on 2 probations, 1 was for a felony the other for beating his wife. I called his wife who told me she was his X-Wife and said that the MD was a pathological liar and gambler. I guess that the MD was in the gambling halls when we were trying to get hold of him with his cell phone turned off so that he didnt get distracted while rolling the dice. Turned out he was not in the FBI, military, CIA etc (like they dont take convicted felons). He signed off physcials on employees he never examined & diagnosed someone with a fatal illnees that they did not have. He also took 3 Klonopins and 2 vicodins a day that were not prescribed for him. If he ever did return a call his speech would be all slurred and he would be taking about being shot at on an FBI mission. The owner of the LTC where this MD is over about 20 of them is aware, but doesnt care.

I'm sure they care but they are happy to have a Doc on the list! It's difficult for LTCs to get 'em you know so they are just going day to day with their fingers crossed hoping something terrible doesn't happen until his time is over (probably becasue of an arrest and NO parole this time!)
LTCs are in a sticky situation. They have to have a Doc. Docs don't wanna be the one. They probably considered themselves lucky enough to have his (at least) currently active license available to them.
It's just another one of those really crappy situations where it comes to our elders.

I can tell you that the FBI takes a VERY dim view of people who say they're affiliated with them. It would only take one call to get their attention!

When I called his cell phone and the med. Assistant answered "officer Jenny" and said he was on an FBI mission I did call the FBI right away who informed me that he was not a member. The FBI said that flashing a badge and wearing a Uniform was not enough for them to do anything. However I did call the probation officer that he has for his Felony case and they are investigating my observations. The probation officer didnt seem to concerned either. But he still has an open complaint against his license and I have no idea what if any conclusion the medical board will come to.

What a crazy quack!! I can't believe that the LTC is not worried about this guy. I would be afraid for my safety around him as he is not secure in reality. How can there not be someone of authority that would not know how to get this guy into treatment? If this were a person in the ER or police station, they would sure send him for a phych consult. I believe that you should pursue the issue as he is a risk to patient safety. Someone needs to advocate for the patients he is putting at risk!!

Very right you are...remember though, we are talking about an MD! Unless he gets caught doing something that is illegal, like batting another woman around (it'll happen, it almost always does) it's going to be really hard.
The LTC facility is very likely unwillingly praying (they'd never admit it) the nursing staff will catch any boo boos he's making.
I'd probably call everybody I could think of. Ive got major issues when I am sure I am right I don't let go until it is hopeless!

Get enough documentation from a variety of people and start reporting the quack.

I did have 2 witnesses come forward and write 2 different letters to the MD's probation officer that they witnessed the FBI outfit, handcuffs on his belt hoops and the flashing of the FBI badge. He even offered these people one a minor a job with the FBI. He offered to do a gyne exam on the minor female even though he is a nursing home doctor with no OB training. When I met with his probation officer they interogated me like I was the criminal. The medical board is taking the complaint seriously but they take forever to conduct and complete an investigation. I did report it to the police and turned in a picture that he took of himself in the military outfit and a pair of his combat boots left at the office for evidence. The police said that wearing a uniform is not illegal. I did accuse him of being mentally incompetent manifested by this bizarre behavior. Tell the weirdo that Colon Powell just placed a call to his military superior and sent word that he (the Doctor) was to report to Afghanistan in 2 days at 0600. He would need to bring one hand pistol, one automatic weapon and two pair of underwear - nothing else.!! He was to report to a Captain Kangaroo (or just make up a name) and tell no one where he was going...Keep your fingers crossed and hope he takes the bait. Type it up and make it look official.
