My usual answer to "Why did you decide to become a "male" nurse?" is that the decision was easy when I learned about the details of the surgery required to become a "female" nurse.

You know that you're a male RN when

1. Male patient's would prefer that a male nurse would do the cath insertion.
2. You're co-worker demands you to do the perinial prep of the male patient.

You know your a male RN.

When the male physician ask about the patient and you don't receive a hug/cuddle/pat/smile/giggle/and making rounds on the patient takes approx. 3 minutes........Just the facts.

Been known to happen. (mind you saw aguy hit on this particular Dr and you should have seen him run away)

i'm sorry bout the scrubs...anyways i was just scoping out the male nurse forum because i was wondering if anymore men had shown up! we need more men in nursing!! besides dont let the scrubs get you down, guys i scrubs are hot! keep up the good work gentlemen!

1. Parents glare at you like your Chester the Molester when you cath their febrile baby girl.
2. Your on a date and the girl finds out your a nurse and the conversation turns to "female problems."

Also when pts call me Doctor, my usual reply is "No I work for a living, I'm a nurse."

...You are 'expected' to be strong, insensitive, and looking at her butt
...You feel as if you have to explain to patients that your spouse is actually a female
...You have to explain to your friends that you actually make more than they do, and all that money for just putting people on bedpans and giving people tylenol
...You sit by yourself at your first, second, and third day of orientation
...You have to remind your supervisor that "the girls" does not necessarily include you.
