Nursing is an awesome field for any gender. I find that Male nurses offer a very different type of working dynamic. Most of my coworkers like working with me because...I don't know...I guess less to no drama.

How Long: I came out of the factory in ’70. Prior to that, I was a Navy Corpsman working in a hospital, having the same function as a floor RN. At that time the only RN’s the Navy had were in administration.

Your Plans: No, there are too many options in this field to limit yourself to nurse manager. I have been up and down the pecking order, from DON (70-bed ecf/psych Hosp.), ICU RN, House Supv., Internal Auditor, College Level Teaching Credentials -- all with just an AA

Pre-Med: No, there are already enough unhappy doctors.

Negative: Yes

Positive: No. What may be viewed as positive discrimination by others is just a honing of assessment and response skills learned in ICU, along with the communication skills developed and used in difficult situations with families, MD’s and patients.
