Question How to Unplug NG Tube for TF

My patient's NG tube plugged up just after eating his pureed supper. Any tips on how to unplug it. I hated to remove it, but it just would not flush. Thanks.

Hate to say it, but in my nursing home years I learned - Coca Cola is the best thing to unplug a NG/PEG tube!

If you can get a scrip for them pancreatic enzymes work great. MT2 or MT 5 in a small amount of water. Works like a charm.

Maybe wait longer before you put it back to suction after the patient eats?

Have used both methods to unplug an NG. I would recomment flushing with water after the feeding also.
