Red face How to make a second colonoscopy sucessful?

Hi i'm a newbie to Allnurse.

I was wondering what do you think.I was thinking about getting another colonoscopy. My last one was a decade ago but couldn't reach the cecum.

I was not sedated and i wonder if next time i have Propofol the colonoscopy could be complete and most important less painful.

Re: How to make a second colonoscopy sucessful?

it all depends what the problem was. typically the problem with females and not being able to reach the cecum is adhesions secondary to hysterectomy/c-s or liposuction/abdplasty, or just a redudant colon by anatomy.

what my doctors usually do for patients with this problem is:

1. split dosing prep with 2+ days clear liquids
2. send to the hospital to get general anesthesia
3. peds scope

they should give you enough medication to where you are comfortable and have no recollection of the procedure. i know alot of docs heavily rely on versed as an amnestic and sometimes it does not work out that way.

virtual colons are cool, but theres no point in getting one atleast i dont think because it cant detect small polyps or ulcers, and if there is an area that needs a bx or a polyp removal, you have to have a traditional colon anyway.

talk to your GI about it. there is definately steps to take to make your next colonoscopy more comfortable for you as well as reach the cecum.

Hate to say it, but this really borders on giving medical advice, which is against TOS.

You should bring up your concerns to your Dr.

As mentioned this should really be discussed between yourself and your doctor.

Re: How to make a second colonoscopy sucessful?

Thank you all for your responses.
As others have posted, these are concerns and questions to take to your GI MD, not on this board, per TOS (Terms of Service).

Good luck with your procedure.
