We place NJ's endoscopically, I really don't think they can be safely placed any other way. As far as placement, the tube should be weighted to prevent migration, and air bolus or aspiration of contents is not effective for determining placement. X ray is the only effective means of verifying placement. Feedings should be given continuously to ensure adequate absorption of nutrients, because boluses are usually given to prevent aspiration.
