Thanks a lot Brian and God bless you!
Great Idea.
Here is what You still get for free without upgrading to a premium membership:
  • Get full access to about 150 nursing related forums where you can post and read.
  • Live Chat
  • Private Messages system with 50 messages storage.
  • Be able to use smilies in your post.
  • Be able to read the Break Room and Current Events forums.
  • Be able to look through the members photo gallery.
  • Be able to read members journals.
  • Be able to search all 150 nursing forums by keywords.
  • Be able to subscribe to topics and/or forums and get email notices when they are updated, per your preference (immediate, daily, weekly, never).
  • access to your user cp, where you can organize your subscribed threads/forums in folders.
  • have a buddy list.
  • have an ignore list.
  • access the calendar and birthday list.
  • browse the member list.
  • participate in polls.
  • use the active topics menu, New post, last 1,2,3,4,5 days, unanswered post search options.
  • quick reply box at bottom of threads and PMs.
That's what I can recall off the top of my head, there may be more that I am forgetting, but that's a start. So as you can see, you are still getting a great list of features.

I just added this list to the first post in this thread as well.

Hope that helps.

Now I know why my signature was taken off, I guess!!
What is the deadline for this payment? I can't say that I am a frequent user, but when I feel the need, I like the options I have always had.
Hmmmm! I have to think on this.
I guess you're either going to be "in" or "out" so to speak. Kind of divided. Pretty sad but I understand the need for the cash!

Brian apologized for springing it on us, so we need to forgive on move past that.

Despite what I think this website "should be", or indeed what it actually means to me, is entirely different from the owner.

Most internet sites are entrepreneurial in nature, even if the site is to provide information and fellowship. I post to a board that was free and the popups and the ads are deafening. Many if they aren't directly selling something, ask for donations, or charge a fee. I've given money to about four sites I regularly visit.

With all the hours Brian puts into this site, I can't blame him a bit for trying to minimize expense or to even make a profit. Rather than participate in a poll how on how I would want this site run, I choose accept Brian's choices. Frankly with the number of posts I have I would feel horrible to demand it stay free if he needed the money to keep it running or make a profit.

Forutnately I'm blessed to have to work only one hour a year to pay for this site. I'm willing to pay for someone's membership if someone is in need, please ask me.

If you feel it's a matter of principal, I humbly disagree and allow you that. Continue to vent your concerns and make suggestions.

I know as soon as I say things like "this website should be........" "I thought it was supposed to be about...........", "why can't it be.......", "don't change it means so much to me..........". Sooner or later I get disappointed. I'll go with the flow and then move on when that time comes.

My 2 cents.

I didn't know we had games either. Cool.

Even with the changes/restrictions this site is still a great deal as we can access it for free although in a more limited way. I go to some of the other sites and the threads are old and infrequently visited. So thanks Brian for what you are still allowing us to access for free.

With the Premium membership you get all of the above plus:
  1. You will have a nice “Premium Member” Logo under your username in every post.
  2. Photo Gallery for sharing your photos with the community.
  3. Personal Journal (Blog) for keeping either a private or public journal.
  4. Your PM box will increase in size, from 100 messages maximum to 500 maximum (InBox and Sent Items combined), and you'll have the ability to PM up to 30 buddies at once.
  5. You'll get full access to a private "Premium Member" forums.
    • Premium Member Forum
    • Break Room
    • Current Events
  6. Avatars - Cool pictures next to your username.
  7. Signatures - short comments at the bottom of all your post.
  8. We will be adding additional features in the future as well.
  9. We will be giving forum support priority to premium members.
  10. Additional features to be added on in the near future.
That and you will know that Allnurses.com , the place we call home on the net, is getting your support for a very reasonable cost.

Only 2 forums out of 150+ forums: The Break Room and Current Events is where POSTING ABILITY will be limited to Premium bb members.

General membership will be able to view those areas and POST everywhere else on the board so nurses from around the world will still be able to benefit from this great website.

In speaking with Brian last night, he will be reorganizing some of the forum lists over the next couple of weeks for ease of use too as allnurses.com continues to improve the #1 world wide nursing network.

Continue to use the Site Feedback forum for fastest direct communication with the administration team (only seen by Admin Team) regarding
bb concerns or improvements desired. We don't view all 1,200+ posts the board now daily receives and want to be able to respond to your concerns quickly as possible.

The moderating team (including Russell, Ted and myself) all volunteer our time here to create a welcoming and nurturing environment to promote and support our nursing profession...along with being allnurses addicts too.

Brian has given us the POWER to communicate instantaneously across the world 24/7. Let's see what we can do with this power over the coming months and years to move the nursing profession forward. :hatparty:

Awww Tweety... that's so sweet and generous of you to offer to help others with the cost of membership. Maybe a pool could be created so we can donate $ for those who can't swing the cost of membership.

testing, testing....

Hey, I see myself! Had some problems posting last night. I am happy it is fixed.

I do think this is the best nursing site, even when not talking about nursing but OT's.

Thanks.
