For ICU, ER, Trauma nurses/NPs visit https://volunteer.ccrf.hhs.gov/ and fill out one simple form.

Federal Regulations are ensuring that nurses from any state with a valid license can work in the state of Louisiana immediately.

I too would like to donate clothes stuffed animals, and anything else thought necessary, but do not know who to go through. Red Cross maybe but I was hoping to find a way to get them to children immediately. What do you all suggest?

i attempted to apply but all sites say go to your local MRC and join and local MRC says have to have their training and wait 12 months prior to deploying to help. this doesnt seem right in the wake of the disaster ( the training i can understand but the yr wait to volunteer seems excessive. this is wisconsin anyone else have trouble if not associated with local chapters already?

The cook at a local restaurant volunteered wth the red cross. He is getting a weeks training and is being deployed immediately. I'm a trained and experienced, red cross disaster nurse. My training was brief but intense. (I can't leave my full time job to help out in this case.) I don't understand what the holdup is. Maybe the best route would be to get the training and then ask other agencies if they want you.

they arent even having the training till nov!!! i know this is silly - no reason one cant get on it - and the wait for 1 yr is rediculous and have emailed the white house and oreilly - lol not that anything will happen lol.

the website still says you have to belong first to your local MRC or whatever prior to applying................ so im still stuck lol. thanks for the info though.

I posted a request on this site for someone living near a shelter where survivors are being cared for and found someone living near one who was willing to help with my small donation. Faith Hill called the Red Cross and they gave her a specific order-500 T-shirts and the sizes needed,so many hundred socks,disposable diapers,etc and they took their semi-trucks down and distributed these items. You might also contact your church and find the name and phone number of a church in the area who is helping these people. I have heard of churches in the area who are taking care of these families in their church temporarily. There is also the Salvation Army. Just some ideas. I wish I had sent these items a week ago.
