During our perioperative rotation, we have to do a presentation on culture care for a culture other than our own. I've selected the Korean culture. In Korea, homosexuality is not allowed and usually remains hidden so as not to ostracize the family/community.

So here's the scenario: Let's say I have a Korean patient with HIV who needs placement of a PICC line for administration of meds. If the family/significant other asks why the patient is having the surgery, and the patient does not want them to know, how do you respond as the interviewing preoperative nurse? Simply tell them it is a HIPPA violation to discuss the patient's surgery? Thank you!
