I know not many ppl would title a thread that, but that describes the way I feel. Today was my first day as a RN!!! At this time I'm working in an outpatient dialysis center (will start orientation at hospital in critical care in July and will stay with dialysis 1d a week) Anyway, I've been there as a tech for about 9 months now, so i know the ppl and machines pretty well. It was a little slow today starting out all by myself listening to pts, and figuring goals... But soon I had it pretty well down. I'm no where near perfect at it but i'm really getting the hang of it. The main thing is learning the meds and the computer stuff, but my preceptor said she was impressed with how well I caught on and ran with it. I probably doc. more assessments today than she did. The techs respect me because they knew me before i was "thier nurse" and they know i respect what they know and they can see I know my stuff. All in all it was a pretty good day and I am so happy, yet so exausted!!! Can't wait to go back tommorow! Thanks for letting me share.

i remember my first day on the job i was so excited. something you worked so hard for and finally you were there. never forget that moment. i remember i was so excited to get my name tag that day and to write my name. i still get excited when i think that i am actually a NURSE.

As a dialysis nurse for almost 7 years, your enthusiasm is fantastic! Exactly what the patient's, their families and staff need! It will take approx 1 year to feel pretty comfortable with many nursing issues with dialysis. Be sure to read all of your protocols for meds, join the "access team" if you have one and go to any classes by Amgen when offerred!
