Well I don't mind

I was working tonight and had a very demanding patient. I am a new grad and prefer to keep busy but the other nurses were bothered I guess when my patient refused to use his call light and instead would just yell out "NURSE!" After a few times the other nurses were asking if this didnt bother me. And you know what it didnt bother me! I LOVE being a nurse and when a patient needs somthing and they cry out for a NURSE and I can fix the problem IT ROCKS! In fact truth be told Im glad he was to confused to push his button! Hows that for crazy?

New Nurse and Proud of it!

Re: Well I don't mind

I think what the other nurses were trying to tell you in a nonconfrotational manner was that his yelling out, although not a problem for you, is a problem for other sick people on the unit who really don't need to hear him yelling. They were perhaps implying that you should get a PRN to help this gentleman (and others on the unit) get some sleep.

Re: Well I don't mind

Bless your crazy heart!

A patient yelling out like that can be disturbing to other patients and many times nerve-wracking to staff; however, I do admire your excitement and enthusiasm.

Your pride in being a nurse shines through!

Re: Well I don't mind

You are inadvertently (did I spell that right?) encouraging that behaviour. If you were not a nurse, but say a lawyer or a bank clerk, would it be appropriate for someone to yell like that?
