I wouldn't worry about the long shifts...many times you are so busy that the hours pass without you realizing it. The good thing about 12s is that, I believe, you can pace yourself better, and then you get four days off. It'll take some getting used to. I currently work 3 12s as a HUC/CMT while I wait to get into the nursing program (I work nights), and it took me a few months to get into, but now I can't imagine anything else and I know that when I work as a nurse I will continue this shift.
As for having different things occur makes it all the more interesting, nothing is more boring than having the same thing happen every single day. What other career can you have such versatility?
