A Brave Battle Against Leukemia and a Mother's Promise

The inspiring story of Kathy Staub, oncology RN.

After Michael learned he had leukemia, he asked his mother to promise one thing -- that she become a nurse.

Thank you for posting that Vicky. What an amazing gift they both gave each other. Hopefully this will help with her healing process. You know Michael is watching over her every step.

To those who have decided nursing is no longer worth it, because of the high patient loads, even higher acuity, and could-be-better pay...... THIS is why we are nurses.

Re: A Brave Battle Against Leukemia and a Mother's Promise

Ironically, this came out just exactly one year after my son Joseph died. I am in my pre-nursing studies...Joseph was 13 and died of leukemia on January 10, 2007. I promised myself that I would use something of our horrifying AML journey to let Joseph live on. Becoming a nurse just feels right to me, so I am changing careers.

I loved reading that story when it came in my mailbox...if she did it, maybe I can too.
