Honey you're just a child yet. You have a lot of years ahead of you so go for that bachelors! I graduated when I was 55, and that was 10 years ago.

Praise the Lord -- there's hope for me yet! ha.

48 and no longer standing at the gate,
one foot forward and one foot back,
I'll make it thru nursing schoo1, no matter how long it takes!

Just practicing my creative writing we had to do in English! ha!!!

Thanks for this post!! I will be 52 when I graduate in May!!

I pretty much figure I will have to go on for my BSN or MSN (I have a bachelor's in another field), but sometimes wish I could just work and not have to deal with school anymore!!

I also wish I knew what specialty or area I want to go work in...it's getting to be crunch time where I need to make a decision pretty soon!!

Good luck all!!

Good luck to you too!

No offense intended to the teenie boppers or even those in their early twenties, but you do have to have some extra life experiences before you learn the value of your education, and what it takes to be that special nurse, even though I know you already feel you are, and there are exceptions I know.

Congratulations to us oldies is so true. We are more level headed, more reliable, and more serious about our education and our goals. So keep on keeping on.

I think it's great that the younger nurses started their careers so early. They will be well seasoned by the time their our age! LOL! Now, I must admit, I don't move quite as fast as some of those twenty year olds, and I think I have a few more aches and pains (as a matter of fact I got rid of a pain that I had for 20 years -- he wasn't worth a hoot! ha) (takes some of us oldies a long time to get level headed!). (I traded him in for a new model; this one is much better!). He's extremely supportive of me going to school for nursing and life is good! Can't wait to see how nursing improves everything! Thanks for the encouragement!

Yes, I agree that our life experiences will be invaluable. It's good to keep your mind challenged and nursing will definitely keep you challenged I hear!

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

I'm glad to hear from some other older guys changing careers into nursing. I'm a 46yo engineer ready for something totally different. Looking forward to starting nursing school this spring semester.

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

I graduated in 1977, worked a few years, then got married and quit nursing. I let my license lapse too long, and lo and behold I had a desire and need to work when my youngest was 17 (college coming up). Found out I had to retake the nclex!! I guess it was determination that prompted me to study for 2 years and neglect the house but I did pass in july of 07!!! when the computer stopped me at 70 questions, I cried thinking I flunked.. I will be starting a clinical nursing refresher program for 3 wks. in Jan. 08 (unpaid) If I can do it after 20 years, anyone can!!!
