If you've been working in the field, you've got a huge leg up on me and others like me. We have at least one bridge student who has joined us in our third semester and I am constantly amazed by how smart she is, lol!! She knows a LOT more than us, probably from being out there in the trenches already!! The most important tip I can give you is to stay on top of any assignments; our instructors won't stand for late assignments (as it should be) and some folks seem to have issues with this.

Best wishes and let us know how you're doing!!
Just saw your question!!! Was active in the field and on top of my game until 6 years ago, acquired a severe illness and just now getting back in the saddle! Meet with the conselor this Friday!

There's no universal time. Some people wait over two years, some wait a few months. Some don't have waiting lsits.

Good luck!

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

I graduated LPN at the age of 35 and will graduate this Dec with my RN degree at the age of 45, and would like to obtain my bachelors degree. There are a few of us older people in this class well maybe 4 but we are out here. I was glad that my friend age 47 and I got in together it has helped us both since we have more things in common with each other than we do with the younger crowd.

I'm 44, and just beginning my re-education. I'm hoping that my life's experiences will help, as well as FAR more self-discipline in my studies.

Oh, so glad to hear. I am also starting a second career at 48 and will be 51 by the time I graduate and get my RN. I think we have some great life experiences that can be very valuable in nursing. I'm looking forward to entering nursing school this Fall 08. I only have one more class to take as a pre-reg this coming spring semester and then on to nursing school Fall 08. Already applied, and have kept a good GPA so far, so hopefully I will be in!

I agree that learning is always a life long process and congrats to us "oldies" for continuing the learning process!

Older is good.

In my May 07 class; youngest was 20 oldest was 56, our director called us the "over-acheivers." We were driven. More than half of the class were honor students of a 3.5 or higher. So it goes to show, when you are older you know what you really want.

Yep, I think you're right! I was a high achiever in High School. I even graduated in the top 10% of my class back then and got a potential scholarship to U of A in Tucson, AZ, which I never pursued because I was young and fell in love and got married at 19 and started a family instead. Not that I regret ever having my children, but you do think about things differently in your later years. Plus, now, I don't have small children at home, so I can concentrate solely on my nursing career!

I am glad I made you laugh! I usually have someone laughing and am naively wondering what's so funny! Looking forward to talking to you more!

Talk to you soon!
