Thanks for this nice imput!!!

I'm 45 and the oldest in my class. I don't think the other students care much for that.... but I confess I felt "strange" sometimes. It's gone now... I'm doing as good as everyone else.... and sometimes even better.

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

You know what? I look in the mirror and a seen a 22 year old, but my drivers license tells me I am 45. Also, where I am from a ton of folks go to nursing school that are "older" Go for it!

I laugh when I hear someone in their 30's saying they're old but I guess it's all revelant. I just graduated with a LPN diploma at 63.

If it's something you want to do then go for it. Like someone else said, I didn't staff how old I am but some of my fellow students knew. For some reason I just can't lie about my age.

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

I just turned 48 on July 3rd and passed the boards on July 20th. I will be starting as an L&D nurse in Sept. I spent my entire career in Corporate America and a few years ago felt something was missing. I still can't believe I am a nurse! I want to leave work each day knowing that I made a difference in someones life not just made some big Pharm company more $$$$$

The best thing is I realized a dream.........

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

HI!

I was 30 when I graduated. And now, I've been an LPN going on 17 yrs! And I've had an article published last year.. yep.. waited til I was 46 to seriously pursue my OTHER dream.. writing. And I'm now working on a revision for a soon to be published ( I hope ) CE article on End of Life Care. And have accepted the assignment to do another article on type II diabetes.. so, see.. it's NEVER too late.. oh, btw.. there was a 63 yr old woman and 65 year old man.. HE was also in my karate class!! Who graduated at the top of our class!!

I hope for you the best in your career should you choose to pursue it!

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

I'm still trying to figure out how this thread thing works. So forgive me if this is sent incorrectly. I am very impressed with everyone. Connie congrats on taking on the new challenge of writing. Also your comments on age very inspiring.

I had to show my hubby as he thinks he's too old for most new endeavors.

At 42 I am very excited to start clinicals this fall. Also scared. This is a huge step as I never had much self confidence in the past. Doing well in my pre-reqs. has given me more confidence and the belief that I can do this. (With moments of doubts at times). Especially when other students tell tales of tortures by the instructors.

All of your encouragement, and seeing your ages wow it's terrific. I am constantly encouraging my much younger co-workers not to wait until my age but perhaps what matters most is desire and curiosity.

Thanks to all

This will be a great place to come to for encouragement and sympathy!! Best wishes!!

As for your hubby, my husband graduated from chiropractic college @ the ripe old age of 45!! He was a career changer. When he was forced out of his former career due to an injury, he considered many options. He said often that he was too old for this, too old for that. He sort of defaulted in to chiropractic college and is doing well in this career, but I think he wishes he had actually gone for one of his other dreams such as coaching/teaching or physical therapy. Please tell him that at his age, he is SO not too old for any endeavor!!!

At 51, I'm am going to be starting my 3rd semester of an ADN program. I haven't felt the least bit uncomfortable or old during this endeavor!! And I was NOT the oldest in my class!!
