Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

Get this:

Dropped out of high school at 17. Never graduated high school.
Had first child at 20.
Started college at 24.
Got my first degree (AA) at 26.
Joined the Air Guard/Reserves at 27.
Got my second degree (BS) at 28.
Had second child at 30.
Had third child at 32.
Got third degree (MA) at 35.
Got deployed at 36.
Had my fourth child at 39.
Took temporary hiatus from military at 42.
Got my fourth degree (BSN) at 49.
Started working in ER from hell 20 days before my fiftieth birthday.

Am planning on applying to medical school next year.

Call me crazy, but does anyone know when life is going to stop?
What happens if they discover HOW to stop aging?

Am just trying to be prepared.......late in life to me is 105. You only go around once.

Just do it.

These last few posts are amazing-so great and such an inspiration to me. Jerico, you are the greatest. Good luck with med school!!!!! Due to the encouragement of allnurses.com, my application for grad school to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner is ready to go!!! Now for all that do not know me, I have spent the last 25 years of my life teaching elementary school! I am so excited-I can't tell you how much. Krisssy

MBrester- you go for it. I bet you do get in. Let us know. Good luck and do apply! Krisssy

My personal stats

41, when I graduated with my ADN (1996).
44, when I obtained by BSN (1999).
50 (this year), when I obtained my MSN (Nursing Education)

Now I'm thinking about a Nursing PhD.... :Melody:

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

I was 45 when I entered nursing school for my ADN. I worked full time while I continued in school for my BSN then MSN. I now am looking forward to working till retirement in nursing. My only regret is that I did not take this career path sooner.

P.S. Before nursing school I had never had algebra, not even in high school. Now I work with statistics and algebra frequently. I do not even feel like the same person anymore.

Re: Anyone start their career late in Life?

Hi, I'm 47 and will graduate in Dec. with my LPN. I decided to go into nursing because it's something I've always wanted to do but wasn't able to. I had kids, worked with kindergarteners, did PR for the newspaper, etc.... Now that I'm almost DONE, I am excited, exhausted, and so happy I decided to pursue what I've always wanted to do. My husband and 3 teenagers are proud of me and have been a great help through the past 14 months of nursing school. As long as you have the desire GO FOR IT! Good luck to you. I figure next year I'll start a bridging program for my RN.
