Deputy Coroner Trainee

I have gotten called on a job I applied for as a Deputy Coroner Trainee. All they required was a medical background and I"m an LVN, so I thought I'd try. Anyone know anything about it? I know it's not exactly nursing, and I read a little up on it, and it seems like there are a lot of nurses who do that. Any info would be neat.
Thanks

Sounds very interesting, NickiLaughs,

I did an externship with the local ME. We did not have Deputy Coroners, however.

I, too, am interested in what your duties would be. Please, let us know and good luck.

I presume that it would be assisting the coroner with his duties. Corner duties would include autopsies, collecting evidence at site or during autopsy, documentation of evidence, attesting to veracity of evidence collected, forwarding information to appropriate parties, etc.

Re: Deputy Coroner Trainee

Well, I got a book, my impression is that I would be paired with another deputy coroner, they're also called "death investigators" and they go to the crime scene, examine the body, look for any distinguishing bruises, ligiture marks and so on to determine if the death is possibly either homicide or suicide, if determined so, then it's a case made by the coroner. They interview witnesses, notify the family, transport the body to the coroner, stuff like that.
As an LVN in california I make like 17.50/hr. This job as a trainee starts me out at like 18.20 to 24/hr. After being a trainee and moving up the ladder, I assume the salary goes up.
Well, keep your fingers crossed that I get it! It'd be a really neat job.
: )

How cool is this? Here in central IL, our coroner is an elected official (who's grand medical education is that she is a medical transcriptionist!). No kidding? The deputy coroners (there are about five) all have an EMS background.

Re: Deputy Coroner Trainee

where in California are you? That sounds like a lot more fun than what I am doing, being on call as a SANE and not getting paid, although it is an awesome opportunity with great people but I would love doing the scene. Keep up posted...pant...pant...pant
