Red face Certificate from Kaplan

I've been perusing the site and gathering valuable info. Just wondering if anyone has actually completed the Kaplan forensics program? I found it interesting that someone else posted that they had 2 days to get the deposit in. That happened to me along with a lot of "reminder" phone calls from my "advisor." Is this place a scam? Would anyone recommend a program first hand? I need to do on-line study though I am taking a week long SANE course in Nov. I want to learn more about forensics and would like to have some credentialing to back it up. Advice? I've read many of the links now would appreciate some real life advice.
Thanks!

Re: Certificate from Kaplan

HI,
I would tell you to look into a school that has a campus track as well as an on-line track. I am unsure what you have in the way of education, so your choices may be limited in which program you can enroll in. I have a Master's of Science in Forensic Nursing from Fitchburg State. I moved in order to enroll in the classes, but I have heard that they are moving to offer an on-line version of the program. You also want to look to see if the course is accredited by the National League for Nursing.
I think you need to get the practicums under your belt, as it exposes you to what opportunities there are out there for Forensic Nurses, and many times will provide you with contacts that you can use to seek employment when you complete your courses.
Best of Luck in your search.
Marybeth

Re: Certificate from Kaplan

Thanks for the input. I have an ADN and a BS in an unrelated field. I am gathering info but can't move to be near a campus program. I need to do on-line study. Thanks so much for responding!

Re: Certificate from Kaplan

I am enrolled in the forensic nursing certificate program at Kaplan and it is legit. The advisor is very nice and she gave me a $100 discount for sending in my information and application within 24 hours after the interview and being accepted into the program. I would highly suggest this program. It does take self-discipline; however, it very user-friendly since I work the 1800-0600 shift. The quizzes are fairly easy if you do the reading and the "field trips" are all via website readings. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a private message.

Re: Certificate from Kaplan

I signed up for Kaplan today and this was after checking and double checking on them. They are legit it seems with the National League of Nursing and national accredit... with the IAFN. It was difficult to come up with the money as someone else had said in a short time but that was not because of a scam it was because of the time that I called. I am hopeful, and I guess with anything else even after checking things over anything can happen so lets just keep our fingers crossed. If we made a wrong choice at least we are not alone LOL (just trying to see positive side of things even though that would be terrible)
