working while in nursing school?

Hello everyone,

I just applied to a 2 year RN program in CT. I am a married mother of 2 ages 8 and 3. I work part time waitressing 2-3 nights a week each shift 4 hours to help pay bills.

When I do finally start nursing all of my pre-nursing classes will be finished, I only have Micro to take (this spring), Child Psychology and a humanities elective, which I intend to finish all before the fall of 2005.

My question is will it be too much once I am in nursing to continue with my part time job 12 hours a week?

I managed to continue working during my Anatomy classes which were brutal, and still got straight As, but I know nursing is much more regimented and the homework I am sure will be a lot more time consuming.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Thanks, Hollyberry

One can do anything if they want it bad enough.....

I have to work, not just for the $$, but working helps me keep my priorities in line and helps me stay motivated. I work 2-12 hour shifts per week (Sat/Sun days). I know lots of people that work full time jobs while in school. It's whatever you think you can handle.

Good luck!!!

Thanks, my biggest concern is I only had to work 2 nights a week in the past, but lately the restaurant has been dead and I had to pick up another night to compensate, maybe I should look elsewhere? It's hard because I have been at this place on and off for 15 years and it's comfortable..I know everyone which makes it hard to leave.
I was thinking of getting a nurse tech job instead, but I think I will pursue that avenue after micro is finished, that way I can work as many shifts as I want until I start nursing (2 year wait)..

Thanks Hollyberry
