Question - What advise can you give...

I am going to start taking preq classes in the Fall for Nursing. I was going to school for Business, but decided to look into Nursing. Math or Science hasn't been my best subject, but with any class if I buckle down I can go well in the class. My biggest fear is Anatomy and learning all of the different parts of the body. I was thinking about getting a head start by purchasing flash cards and start reviewing them. Is that a good idea? What overall advise can you give someone like me who is changing careers, at 30 years old, and will be newly married!

Thanks

Re: What advise can you give...

When I took A&P I & II I bought the flashcards thinking it would really help but I didn't really use them. I did not have any time. I had CD's for my class called Anatomy & Physiology Revealed (An Interactive Cadaver Dissection Experience) which is from McGraw-Hill. These CD's are in such detail even pronouncing the body parts for you. If you are really having trouble learning a certain part of the body you just keep going over and over that section of the CD. I know other people on this board recommend the A&P coloring books but again these CD's were all I needed. They will also be a great refresher for me to go over this summer before I start nursing school. I also tape my notes it really help when there is just so much info. to learn. Good Luck.

Re: What advise can you give...

I think it's always good to get a head start if you can. I took A&P I last year and although it was the hardest class I've ever taken, as long as I put in some good study time each week, I did fine and really learned alot. I'm started nursing school this fall and will probably audit A&P again just as a refresher and I was going to go out and get the anatomy colouring book because I've heard that helped alot. The same goes for about all of the other classes, some will be easier than others, but just make sure you're devoting enough time to studying, and that said, don't forget to still go out and have fun, especially if you're celebrating getting a really good grade on a test! Mainly, though, just stay positive! Good luck!

First and foremose get the classes you need done to get your name on that wait list / be able to apply, and as for AnP I found it most helpful to make my own flash cards! Maybe get an AnP coloring book it could help also and each teacher is a little different so dont amubush your self take it in strides and always remember you CAN do it!!!!

Re: What advise can you give...

I learned A LOT from You Tube. I know that sounds weird, but it helped me learn all the bones, blood vessels, nephrons, hair follic., all sorts of models I didn't have time to look at during lab time. Check it out. All you do it type in "frontal bone" or what ever you are studying and a list of videos will come up. There is one prof. that is great, I think his name is ncant or something like that. I also bought the flash cards and coloring book....they did not help, nor did I have time to use them with all my homework, my kids, husband, dog and job. You will do great, plus you will find a couple of people you can study with and that will help you also!
