Re: Stressed and Depressed

I know extacly what you are takig about I have been in the same psition as you are in now. Try to not let it get to you know that you are doing your best and that si all that matters!!! You can not beat yourself up, if you have to talk to your instructor about extra credit or if yu have take the class again then take it again at least you will know the material better. If becoming a nurse is what you truly want then stick with I am sure you can do, don't give up on your dream. Becoming a nurse is all I ever think about and I know that I will struggle but I will push through no matter whatand I will not let anyone else tell me different. Like you my main support is my wonderful husband and kids without them it would be even harder but I am so greatful that at least they believe in me. I wish luck ok, hang in there Keep us posted ok!!! Nurses Rock!!!

I'm sorry your feeling that way. All you can do is try your best and don't let anyone tell you that you are not performing as well as you can if you know in your heart you are.
Just keep trying to do as good as you can and you will get there eventually. If you need help with something, go in for that extra help...our school has tutors at no charge to help us with whatever we need...or ask the teacher if your not understanding something - they are usually more than willing to help. Flash cards are my savior for most classes...Micro being no different...find what helps you the most in studying and remembering and go with it!
Best of luck to you and hang in there!

I am not sure where you are at in your nursing program but if you know you gave the best you could don't beat yourself up. Try to talk to your Micro instructor. See if there is anything that you could do to boost your grade. If not, talk to the instructor to see what advice the instructor has so you can succeed in the class if you need to take it over. Maybe you just need a study group. You might pick up some study tricks that save you some time and help you learn the material a little easier.
See if you can find a break in your schedule after this Micro class is over just to take a breather. Go to the beach and enjoy what is left of the summer with your boyfriend. Even if it is only for a day - just to get away and relax. Don't even think of school during your escape. Assess your school situation when you get back and come back fighting. You can do whatever you set your mind to.

I think this is the Microbiology curse....I thought last semester would never end, i HATED micro, it was all good in the beginnning, but then our teacher aid left, and the teacher got a little irritable, and to make a long story short, i ended up with my first C in college and was devastated, but i was accepted into my nursing program and start monday, and heard something in orientation along the lines of "Strive for an A, expect a B, and be happy with a C" so maybe that will be my new moto, lol :-) good luck with everything, it does end! and then it'll be just a distant memory.

In the end its just one class. If you need to take it over then take it over. Next time you will do better because you will know what to expect, and be better prepared. As everyone here has said eventually it will all be a distant memory. If you are really feeling depressed, and it doesn't seem to let up see your doctor. I went through a similar situation and was prescribed zoloft for awhile, and it really got me over the hump. When you are overly stressed for a long time it can mess up the chemicals and chemical receptors so it truly becomes a medical issue, and one out of your control. A simple prescription for a short period can often remedy things, and get things working again for you.

You have gotten a lot of great advice already, but I just wanted to add my support as well. I know school is stressful, and Micro is a very tough class...when I am in those situations where I think I want something soooo bad, I imagine to myself, "what is the worst thing that could happen?" often it isn't all THAT bad. If you did have to take Micro again, you could do it....It might be a royal pain in the behind and your family may think bad things about to, but so what? I think you need to sit down with your folks and ask them to back off. You are not a little girl anymore, you are a college student and you need their respect and support, not criticism...I think things happen in our life for a reason and maybe this will be a real turning point for you...asserting yourself with your folks, loving and accepting yourself no matter what the circumstances... those are some very hard issues and takes most of us a long time to conquer. One thing I know for sure, is that you have to become your own best friend in this situation and let other people REALLY know what you need from them. And, you have to calm down....you are OK...you can do this...don't forget to breath..
   you can do it!!

Take a deep breath and clear your mind. Take your micro class one day at a time. Do not beat yourself up because that will make the situation worse. If your having trouble sleeping at night, perhaps you need a "me" day. A day where you do whatever to boost your spirits. But most of all stay positive!! Trust me I was in the same boat when I took AP. PM me if you need some words of encouragement.

I have never been through this, but I do have some advice. Don't focus solely on your classes. I know it's hard, but you need to have some "you time". If you don't keep yourself happy and healthy, you can't give your classes your best effort. Also, many schools let you retake classes to get a higher grade. I know that would not be an ideal situation, but it will still allow you to achieve your ultimate goal of being a nurse. Slow down, take some time to yourself, and then focus on your studies. Don't worry whether others believe you are giving it your all. You know the truth about how hard you ar working. Best of luck. I know you can do it!
